Yesterday we went back up to see the Dr. that sewed Wade's eye up. He checked many things eye pressure, vision, stitches, swelling, and all aspects of the eye tissue. He sent us over to a retina specialist who ran his own series of tests. What he found was a debris trail that was left by the nail penetration. The nail went 2/3's of the way through his eye. It was a ring shanked 8 penny galvanized box nail....shot out of a coil air nailer from 10 feet away. They had pulled the nail out of his skull right after it happened....so it was out by the time we went to the hospital. His eye also has blood in it. He said the eye was sealed very well. (great stitch job). The problem with the debris is that if it is left in the eye the body will react to it....scar tissue will develop that might pull the retina off the eye wall. Not to mention the the vision being impaired by the scar tissue. What the Dr wants to do in 10 days or so is put 3 holes into the eye.....1 for a light pipe....... 2 for a device that has a cutter on it as well as a vacuum......3 for an instrument that maintains internal eye pressure. By removing all the debris and dead blood his chances for saving eye function goes from 2 out of 3 to 9 out of 10. After the surgery there is a 100% chance a cataract will form in the next 6 months. He will need to have that fixed as well. They have Wade on antibiotics as well as steroids and 3 different types of eye drops. He is smiling again :) which is good. Thanks to all who are praying and leaving notes! It is encouraging to us all.

Hi Wade! You have never met me, but I have known your Dad since he was just a little guy, living in Elgin, IL, where I live. Your Grandma and Grandpa Reed are good friends of mine, and Grandma (Nancy) and I sang barbershop together for many years. I have known your great grandparents for a very long time, as well. My husband (Gene) and I share the same wedding anniversary with your great grandparents, August 11th. (I know Tressie has passed, but she's right there with you, loving you as always.) I was at the beautiful wedding of your parents. Also, I have watched all you kids grow up through all the wonderful photos sent by your parents over the years. I know just which one you are. There - you have some background as to who I am. Now, for the present time and what has happened to you. It's really an unbelievable accident, one which has altered your life for sure, at least for now. I just want you to know that our prayers are unending and coming your way. I have had some freakish things happen to both my eyes, especially my left, but I'm really doing well. You will too, my young friend. These specialists really know what they're doing, so keep your strong faith right in front of you as you walk each step of your path. Trust in those with a special expertise and know that oh, so many people love you, even if you haven't met all of them yet. I hope to meet you one of these days. I do love Bear Lake and have so many wonderful memories from there. Once again, know you are never alone and that abundant love surrounds you. Many wonderful things await you in your long life ahead of you. Sändra and Gene Woolcott

Wade,
We are praying so hard for your eyesight and for your strength. You're such a tough guy that I know it would take something much stronger to knock you down, so what I'm praying for is the doctors skill and for steady hands to prevail.
Love you,
Heather

Hey you guys!!
You should've had all girls. We are praying for Wade's recovery and somehow just know things will be all right. It has to be with the Reed family and all of their adventures. Chin up (at safe times only) and keep the smiles. I just read they help us live longer and am still waiting to read something that makes us live a safer life!! Take care.

Glad to know you are smiling!

Wade, we just stopped by as we were travelling through Bear Lake, and thought of you. Our hearts go out to you, and we are appreciative that if was not worse. I have gotten nailed stealing second base in high school before, but you have taken the "analogy" out of it, and have REALLY gotten nailed! Years from now, when conversation is at a lull, you can always say, "Have I ever told you how it felt to have a nail go into your eye?" Then you can watch all the weak stomachs start to get sick. I cringe just thinking about it. I must be such a wimp. We are praying for you sincerely. BT and Debbie
