We set up the bigger South Bend metal lathe to turn heavy blocks of wood for bowls.

We need the extra mass of the metal lathe to turn these big unbalanced chunks.

The worry was it flying off while spinning and end up hurting someone.

The goal is to eventually turn large root balls into vessels.

A 16" diameter is the largest we can turn with this configuration.

Dad and Drew checking out the progress.

Looks like Uncle Bob's bowl is in progress.

Actually Uncle Bob's wood is too green to turn yet. Mother nature has to dry it out or it will split.
Maybe later this summer.
