Why do you have to trim the bushes now?

If the trees are not cut back...they will not produce much. The pruning will force new growth that in turn in 2 years will produce berries. The trees are pruned in the winter when they are dormant. All of their energy is stored in the roots. After cutting you end up with a bigger root to branch rato...Therefore it will produce more branches.
